Through our efforts, we have successfully influenced companies to add more women to their board of directors. We have also increased awareness among women about their potential for being a board candidate and engaged them in starting their board journey. We want to continue advocating by going directly to the source – the legislature.
We are working with other civil rights organizations and local officials to implement a law that requires companies to prioritize diversity in the decision-making process for board appointment. Our proposal to the State of California Legislature, as well as the City of San Francisco ensure that companies consider diverse candidates and make an informed, transparent decision that shareholders can review.
